Dr. Eric Potts, BSA, DVM
Dr. Potts grew up on a mixed farm near Watrous, SK. Growing up in a small town, he was not only busy playing hockey but he was also involved in the local Beef 4H Program where he raised and showed Simmentals. He has always enjoyed working with animals and had particular soft spots for their family’s St. Bernards and their Akita “Meika” growing up. After obtaining his degree in Agriculture majoring in Animal Science & Nutrition from the University of Saskatchewan, he pursued a career in Veterinary Medicine. One of Dr. Potts’ veterinary interests has been in the field of dentistry and during his final year of veterinary school he was fortunate to spend some time learning at a specialty dental practice in Los Angeles, CA. He also has a strong interest in ophthalmology and loves seeing eye cases! After graduating from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010, he went into mixed practice in Medicine Hat, Alberta. At the end of 2011, he moved back to Saskatchewan to be closer to family and started working at Wascana Animal Hospital where he has remained ever since! He is an avid coffee drinker and can often be found with a Starbucks in hand. When he is not busy at the clinic, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children, particularly outdoors either hiking, camping, kayaking or golfing. He is a member of the Canadian Veterinary Reserve. In October 2015, Dr. Potts became co-owner of Wascana Animal Hospital!
Dr. Andrea Ulmer, DVM
Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA)
Dr. Ulmer was raised on a mixed farm outside of Young, SK. Animals have always been her passion and at 5 yrs of age she knew that she wanted to be a veterinarian! She spent as many hours as possible in the barn and corrals growing up and was thrilled when she was accepted into the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. She graduated with Distinction in 2007 and received the Read Award in Anesthesiology. Dr. Ulmer then went into mixed animal practice for four years in Alberta. She later moved back to Saskatchewan to be closer to family. Dr. Ulmer joined the Wascana Animal Hospital team and became co-owner of the practice in October 2015. Her areas of interest are soft tissue surgery, ultrasound and alternative veterinary therapies (herbal, acupuncture and therapeutic laser). She is a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist, and one of few veterinarians in Regina practising Integrative Medicine. She combines conventional (Western) medicine with the use of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, when appropriate, to support a patient’s health to the fullest extent. She is currently a member of the Canadian Veterinary Reserve, a national membership of veterinarians available to rapidly assist governments in responding to outbreaks of foreign animal disease and other large-scale emergencies and disasters that affect animals. She enjoys spending time outdoors and on the family farm. When she is not busy with veterinary work, she is spending time with her husband and two children, being "Dr. Mom". Her interests include reading, running, hiking, kayaking and scrapbooking. She shares her home with her cat Steven and a Miniature Dachshund named Jezebelle.
Dr. Erica Sims, DVM
Dr. Sims was born and raised in Regina, SK. From a young age she knew she had a passion for animals and after high school decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She graduated from WCVM in 2016 and immediately returned to her home city! In the spring of 2017, she joined our team of veterinarians to help support our growing hospital. She has a particular soft spot for her canine patients but also loves working with cats, exotics and wildlife. Her main interests are in radiology, soft tissue surgery and preventative medicine. Her favourite thing about general practice is the ability to see many different types of cases throughout the day. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and two dogs Scarlet (Coonhound) and Winter (Husky cross). She loves the outdoors, reading and doing art in her spare time. Dr. Sims has recently moved to Saskatoon to pursue Graduate Studies but will be continuing to work at our hospital on a casual basis, one Saturday per month.
Dr. Jane Stewart, BSc, DVM
Dr. Stewart joined our team in the spring of 2020. She knew from a young age that she was meant to be a veterinarian! In school she was drawn to biology, loving physiology and the study of life, so veterinary medicine was a natural fit! Dr. Stewart grew up on a farm in Manitoba, graduated from Brandon University with a Bachelor of Science, and obtained her DVM from WCVM in Saskatoon. After completing veterinary school and an internship, she moved to Regina where she has been in mixed animal practice for the past 8 years prior to joining the Wascana Animal Hospital team. Dr. Stewart is currently enjoying acreage living with her husband and two children. She has a menagerie of critters including dogs, cats, horses, ponies and one mischievous goat!
