Fall Pet Safety Tips!

Autumn has arrived here in Regina and this week especially we’ve been blessed with some summery-hot days, allowing us to be outside with our four-legged family members enjoying the beautiful colors!  A few reminders as we head into the fall season:
-ticks are still active at 4 degrees Celsius:  our veterinarians still have patients coming in with ticks on them so please make sure if you need a second dose of preventative you give our team a call!
-the damp weather and back-and-forth warm and cold has allowed for the development of moulds in the leaves and grass as well as the growth of many types of mushrooms: if you notice any symptoms of red eyes, sneezing/coughing or vomiting and diarrhea please schedule an appointment with one of our veterinarians.
-there is a lot of dust in the air and dryness associated with the harvest season: please see us if your pet family member has known seasonal fall allergies; it is best to get them back on any required medications before the scratching results in secondary yeast and bacterial infections!
-Thanksgiving and Halloween are right around the corner: be mindful of keeping rich table foods and chocolate treats out of reach of your pet.  Table scraps and bones can trigger gastrointestinal upset, pancreatitis or cause obstruction.  Chocolate and sweet treats containing xylitol can be very harmful to our four-legged family members.  Always seek veterinary attention immediately if you know that your pet has ingested a potentially toxic substance.
As always, if you have any additional questions or concerns regarding your pet’s health our team is here to help! Happy Fall everyone!
